Economic Development in the Township of Georgian Bay

In November 2011, The Township of Georgian Bay Council adopted the Sustainable Georgian Bay Community-Based Strategic Plan. The vision for the plan was as follows:

“The Township of Georgian Bay will remain a safe and welcoming place: showcasing our historic, prosperous and sustainable villages as well as cottage communities.

Honoring our unique natural amenities, we will promote and collaborate with the outstanding stewards of
our community to foster innovative yet thoughtful growth.”

It also stated the community’s desire to incorporate the three pillars of sustainability in the actions of the
Township.

  • Environment: To be a community that protects, supports and enhances our natural heritage and environmental assets.
  • Economy: To be a community that focuses on economic prosperity, develops our economy and builds on our environmental assets
  • Society and Culture: To be a community that celebrates on our cultural and community assets.

The strategy established eight priority projects including the development of an Economic Development Strategy.

This Community-Based Economic Development Strategy builds on the foundation of the “Sustainable Georgian Bay Community-Based Strategic Plan” and reflects the community’s commitment to the mutually supportive goals of environment, economy and society and culture.

A great opportunity exists for the community of Honey Harbour in the Township of Georgian Bay to develop its waterfront as part of the Honey Harbour Waterfront Development Plan. With the community’s enthusiasm, government’s desire for development and a landowner willing to partner with the public, the conditions are advantageous to develop improvements that will benefit the community of Honey Harbour and the private sector moving forward.

All of our donations and proceeds will be going to the Georgian Bay Biosphere Reserve. Georgian Bay Biosphere works to protect biodiversity by teaching people the value of pollinators and how to plant native plant species to create critical habitats. Insects, including bees and butterflies, are essential to healthy environments and a stable agricultural food supply. By supporting local honeybees, and creating habitat for them, all pollinators benefit. You can help honey bees and other pollinators by: planting a diversity of native species, maintaining all organic (non-chemical) practices on your property, and buying local honey!
